The "GIVE BACK" Stories

My name is Prince Fosu, offering GEOGRAPHY AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT. As part of giving back to the community, I decided to find a place(community) that indeed deserves such a voluntary service and will always have such an experience in memory. So I traveled from Kumasi to a small neighborhood in one of the newly created districts (AMANSIE SOUTH DISTRICT). Manso Apenimadi is a community of not more than 300 population. I have been there before for a funeral. During the few time I was there, I realised a problem in their education system. As the opportunity came to give back to the community, I decided to go there to help solve the problem. Although I had an idea to do so, the encounter with the HuledeFoundation motivated me the most. The community has a school that was supposed to have not less than 19 tutors but due to some reasons, which I will talk about in no time, discourage teachers from coming to the community. As a result, there are only 12 teachers who are taking charge of students from Kindergarten to JHS. It is a problem for these teachers but nothing they can do about it.

These are the problems causing teachers from coming to the community to teach.

* The place is a village (I am sorry to use such an adjective, but it is the truth)

* The problem of electricity (although there exit electricity in the village but it lacks consistency)

* Mobile Network issues

* Lack of teaching and learning materials

* Lack of place for teachers to lay their heads.

* Cost of transportation from the town to Kumasi

And many more other problems but to mention a few. As a result, students' performance keeps dropping. Others drop out of school, and innocent young girls end up pregnant.

So I went there to give my little advice and knowledge to committee members of the town and enlightened them about the need for a child's education as they are the future of the community and the country at large. I encouraged them to build bungalows for the teachers to rest their heads and encourage the SHS graduates in the town to supplement their support to the teachers to ease some of the burdens. Again, I advised the people in the community to exercise hospitality to these committed teachers who have decided to stay with them and any other teacher who will come to help. I encouraged some dropout students to return to school and those who unfortunately got pregnant not to give up and return to the school after delivery or learn a trade. So I stayed with them, also giving my quota to them. I usually went around the classrooms, and when any class was without any teacher, I stepped in and taught. It was an intriguing experience because they wouldn't even let me go back, but there was nothing I could do than say goodbye to them.

And one pathetic thing is that these students are sitting on an untiled or uncemented floor, full of dust.

And the message they gave me was to say a big thank you to the family of Mr. Hulede and the HuledeFoundation, for they may not have received such support without them. They also seek any help the Foundation can extend to them (Manso Apenimadi community), which they will appreciate.

The "GIVE BACK" Stories

I am Daniel Coffie. God being so good, I commenced my volunteering project on September 1, 2023, at the Anyaa M/A "1" Primary and Junior High School located within the Anyaa-Sowutwum constituency. After conducting an investigation, I discovered that the students had limited knowledge in computing. Therefore, I undertook the initiative to provide them with education in computer literacy, starting from Basic 6 and extending to JHS 2. Today marks the commencement of this endeavor, beginning with the Basic Six(6) class. In the initial phase, I am instructing them in the theoretical aspects of computing. The subsequent phase will concentrate on the practical application of computing, encompassing skills such as proficient typing using Microsoft Office and adhering to RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) guidelines, as well as tasks like creating and renaming folders, which we are yet to cover.

My visit to my old elementary school was nothing short of amazing. However, it was accompanied by unexpected news about a Basic 6 teacher who had been hospitalized and wouldn't be available during the upcoming Examination week. Without hesitation, I stepped in to take on his role.

During this period, I served as the invigilator for approximately 79 students. I graded their exam papers within the same week, recorded their scores on their report cards, and ranked them based on their performance. The experience was not only fulfilling but also pleasant.

I was fortunate to have the guidance and support of the other dedicated teachers at the school, who helped me navigate the process successfully. The children were a joy to be with. Their enjoyment of the experience was evident.

Furthermore, this opportunity allowed the ailing teacher to receive the necessary treatment and focus on recovery.

I encourage everyone to engage in activities that contribute to the betterment of our communities.
